Alto El Vapor Micromill – Specialty Coffee from Costa Rica
High-Elevation Coffee with an Experimental Spirit
Alto El Vapor is one of our newest partnerships in Costa Rica. Located in the Tarrazú region, the farm is among the area's highest-elevation coffee farms and stands out for its experimental approach to coffee processing.
The team works to refine the variables that influence coffee quality, exploring different methods to bring out the potential of each lot.
A Family Legacy with a New Vision
Alto El Vapor is a woman-owned farm. After inheriting her grandfather's land, the current owner continued the family's work in coffee production, building on its heritage while developing her own vision for the farm's future.
Her approach combines a connection to the family's coffee-growing roots with a willingness to experiment and explore new ways of expressing Costa Rica's coffee potential.
Exploring Different Processing Methods
Experimentation is central to Alto El Vapor's approach. The farm continually explores processing techniques and works to refine the variables that can influence the final cup.
Its current specialities include Natural, Honey, and anaerobic processing variations. These methods offer different ways to influence the development and expression of a coffee's flavour.
Origin: Tarrazú, Costa Rica
Tarrazú is one of Costa Rica's most productive and best-known coffee-growing regions. Its high-elevation farms are associated with coffees that often feature bright, crisp acidity and notes of apricot and orange.
The final flavour profile, however, depends on the individual producer, coffee lot, and processing method.
Our relationships with producers and micromills throughout Tarrazú allow us to select distinct lots, maintain traceability, and pay premiums for coffees that meet our sourcing goals.
