Konga Natural – Ethiopian Specialty Coffee from Yirgacheffe

A Fruit-Forward Coffee from Ethiopia

Discover this Natural coffee from Konga, a microregion within Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia. It comes from our Sede Washing Station partner, helping us source coffee from this distinctive area year after year.

Konga is known for its pronounced citrus character, supported by the softer stone-fruit flavours of peach and apricot. With Natural processing, these characteristics are complemented by notes of dried cherry and cranberry, alongside bright, lemonade-like acidity.

Natural Processing: Fruit-Forward and Expressive

With Natural processing, coffee cherries are dried with their fruit intact after harvesting. This method can contribute pronounced fruit aromas and a distinctive character in the cup.

In this Konga coffee, the result is a combination of citrus, red-fruit notes, and lively acidity. It offers an expressive taste of the fruit-forward character associated with the Yirgacheffe region.

Origin: Konga, Yirgacheffe

Konga lies approximately four kilometres south of the town of Yirgacheffe, in the Sede kebele, a local administrative area similar to a village.

In these highlands, smallholder farmers grow coffee on small plots, often alongside other crops. Coffee cherries are typically delivered to a nearby washing station, where they are sorted and weighed before processing.

The Sede Washing Station works with coffee from multiple producers. As a result, this lot cannot be traced to a single individual farmer. However, efforts are made to source coffee from the same washing stations each year through established export partners and their local relationships.

Heirloom Ethiopian Coffee Varieties

This coffee is made up of native Ethiopian coffee varieties commonly referred to as heirloom varieties. The lot is not traceable to one specific variety.

Ethiopia is home to a remarkable diversity of coffee varieties and growing regions. Even within the same region, different microregions and processing methods can produce distinct flavour profiles.

What Makes Yirgacheffe Special?

Yirgacheffe is one of Ethiopia's best-known coffee-growing regions, celebrated for coffees with distinctive fruity and floral profiles. Coffee is cultivated in a warm tropical climate, often under shade trees, at elevations of approximately 1,600 to 2,400 metres.

The combination of local growing conditions, diverse microregions, and different processing methods creates a wide range of flavours.

Discover Konga Natural and experience the fruit-forward character of Ethiopian specialty coffee.
